7 blogs in 7 days. Day 5 - First College Football Saturday of the Year

Go Griz! Go Buckeyes! Yay for college football Saturdays! Yay for dancing crazy with our friends! Yay for a new little Buckeye in the family!

Today was almost a no blog today blog. But instead some cute ones from last Saturday that need no words. It was honestly the perfect day. Josh, Shawna, and Rachel came over to play, low stress, a million snacks, big hugs, high fives. Sunny and crisp - 69 degrees. Funny texts.

I heart Saturdays in the fall.

7 blogs in 7 days. Day 4 - Public Transportation and stuff

Today was a good day. First day for Lily to ride the bus. Addie was going to meet her teacher and see her classroom. The morning was filled with goodness and cuteness. Even though I had to take a sick day because Bryson was up all night with a fever. Getting to watch these two was the best...

7:30am

At the bus stop...
Only a little excited
There goes my baby... Bye bye big sis...
Now it's time for Addie's trip to school... "Coo" as she calls it.

Cutie Patoot.
See my back pack, mama?
And later on that day...after Addie's going to school with mom...and lining up four hair bows in a rowAnd a few new friends...
it was almost time for sis to come home.
Is she here yet???
Watching and waiting...

It's taking too long, let's set up camp...
She's here, she's here. Let's go!

Addie was like a hyper little dog jumping over big dog...

And can you believe, we get to do this all again tomorrow? Oh, I hope this excitement sticks
...

(Except let's take out the pediatrician visit and Bryson's fever...
He is fine by the way, no ear infection, no bladder infection, just a lil fever so also only a lil sleep, it's either a virus or teeth, so we wait and watch. TGIF tomorrow!)

7 blogs in 7 days. Day 3 - The first day...

Third day of blogging. Third day of blogging mostly about Lily. Guess this is just her week.

How could I possibly post any backlog blogs when my little girl started Kindergarten today? It almost feels cliche to say since people have been posting on FaceBook for a month about their little ones starting school and where did the summer go and can you believe I have a third grader, etc, etc. But today, it wasn't cliche because it was my baby. My first one. She started real school. The school she'll go to for the next 6 years. When she is finished here she will be 12 years old. TWELVE. Yeah, so I'm sentimental and I'm getting a little ahead of myself. But. Still.

Before we left the house she came to me, hugged me tight around the waist, put her chin on my belly button and looked up at me. I looked into her deep brown eyes, and I could remember those same eyes looking at me as a baby, as a toddler, as barely a little girl. Her face has changed through the years, but her eyes, they are exactly the same. I said, "Lily, how did we get here? I can't believe you are in Kindergarten. When you were a baby, I couldn't imagine this day would ever come!" She just smiled hard at me with her squinty smile eyes and her happy dimple.

To compare how she looked last year on her first day of school, you can see that post hereWe walked in together, even though she desperately wanted me to let her ride the bus today. I couldn't do it. I needed to see her get there. Be with her a few more minutes. "They don't let Kinders ride the bus to school on the first day." I lied. :)
She signed her name when she got there.

She hung up her back pack on her hook. She put on her name tag and she went off to play. She is the only Lily in the class, but there are two Emma's, two Claire's, and two Emily's. Wow. Not that I ever had any class/camp/etc. without more than a few Jenny's growing up, but 3x2 seems like a lot. The teacher has 24 students to keep track of.

The day was great. She liked "Criss Cross Applesauce, put your hands in the chocolate sauce" at circle time. She had a lot of fun, she made a great friend.

Over a year and a half ago I did an Interview with Lily. You can see the answers to that here. My friend Jenn told me about her mom interviewing her on the cassette recorder before her first day of Kindergarten. I thought, wouldn't that be a cute little first day of school tradition, for all the kids? Each year, see how their answers change. I re-read her first one. I was impressed by the difference in her as I read it. And the same-ness. Even before getting this years answers. I remember that her and it is amazing how different she is now. AND Wow did she love Addie. :) Now they fight a little more like sisters than what I'd like! :(

Sitting down before we started she said, "But I'm still in my jammies, is it just talking? Did you take those pictures of me tis morning? Mama? And you already got them on the computer? (meaning the pictures above)

So I was a little disappointed at how UNinteresting this year's interview was, but I'm still going to post it for record keeping sake. Stop reading now if you aren't a grandma! :) I'll try to write the dialect like she says things and also put my commentary in (parenthesis).

7 blogs in 7 days. Day 2 - Sleeping Beauties

What? Jenny! Hasn't posted much about sleep recently. What. is. up. with. that?

If you know me well, you know that I'm a freak about my kids and their sleeping schedules. I didn't used to be. When we had Lily, I was all go with the flow. Babies don't sleep. SHE will fit into OUR lifestyle, and not vice versa. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Except that baby Lily didn't go along with that. And so at 3 months we started trying to make routines and stick with them. We did the no cry sleep solution, we cried it out (and then promptly switched from the pediatrician who recommended it at 4 mths old), we tried to co-sleep, we breastfed, we bottle fed. (Ha!
WE breastfed, good one). At 11 months old she was allowed into a sleep specialist at OHSU, the youngest patient ever because we had been doing EVERYTHING right for 7 months, every single night, revolving our life around it, and she would not sleep. I took a week off work and dedicated every moment during a 24 hour period to get her to sleep and by the end of 10 days, I'd turned her 20 minute naps, 3x a day to one hour each. It was progress. At that point in my life, she was a year, and I could not imagine what moms who had kids who napped for 2-3 hours, 2-3 TIMES a day did with themselves. I was literally parenting 24 hours a day. For almost a year, with a 20 minute on the dot potty break, and 2 hour stints at night. They told us at the pediatrician and the sleep clinic that a nap less than one hour doesn't even count as a nap. Huh, I told them that it meant our 10 month old had only had 2 naps since she was 6 weeks old. By the end of our time, the doctor was asking me if I could send him some of my sleep log forms that I'd created. He was asking for my advice on another patient. That was when I bid him, and his helpful staff, Sayonara. You know, since I wasn't getting paid to treat his other patients, and since we'd reached the end of his knowledge base on my daughter, his youngest ever patient who was apparently a sleep deprived enigma. I thought that maybe Lawrence and I needed marriage counseling. As it turned out, we just needed some SLEEP. And a break. And when she did start sleeping through the night, and napping for more time than just a dishwasher unloading and loading, we got our life back. And it was good.

But still, we were scarred.

So that's the back story in a nutshell. The good news is, I've read every book on sleep. I consider myself a bit of an expert on the topic. I'm not quick to judge or to accept judgment from others on the topic of sleep. I know they haven't been where I've been. I think it might have been different for us if we just didn't care, and we didn't know better, and we'd fumbled through all that time. But our pediatrician telling us how sick our baby could get if she didn't get some sleep scared us in to TRYING for so long without any results. I now know the time and place for crying it out, I listen to my babies cues, I know about "the magic window" for a perfectly executed nap. I can talk another sleep deprived mom off a ledge and offer her support, encouragement, and the-all-important-when-you-are-at-that-point-of-despair, a plan. Any plan. And I have many, many times. I've been a better mother and a better friend for having gone through all that. And I'm so thankful to my second baby, Addie, who helped me gain my confidence as a mother back, when she slept though the night starting at 7 weeks old. And when she napped well the whole time. It's not that she never woke up at night going forward, she did, lots of times here and there for her first year. But compared to Lily, it felt so easy. Getting up only once or twice a night. Once or twice a week.

Other than Bryson's colic his first weeks, he has been an easy joy, and has been sleeping through the night since 10 weeks old. I could count the wake ups on one hand and most of those are nights when we were camping or away from home. But this post isn't about him. Or that. It was actually going to be about how beautiful babies look when they sleep. But like I said, I'm scarred and I like to hash out the sleep woes and the bedtime battles as often as I can. Maybe I should write a book on sleep. Not that anyone would buy it because in the end I would say, yeah, with my first kid I did everything right and it never worked, but then I sort of figured it out for the next two. Good luck, all kids are different. I don't think it would make many sleep deprived mams feel better to read an entire book only to know that someone else has been there. :)

So needless to say, sleep is a pretty big thing in the Herman household, as it is in any household that has done without it for a straight 2 years, I'd guess. And without it, I guess I mean less than 5 hrs per night.

I only have a few pictures of Lily sleeping as a baby, and most of them are in her car seat (where she also took 20 minute naps - on the button). She would wake up at night if you went in to check on her, so I started to just hold my breath and go to bed without peeking in, knowing that she would be up shortly anyway.

But now. Lily is my best sleeper. Addie is my worst sleeper. And for the most part, my OPINION is that Room Sharing Sucks!

However, it is getting a little better. Addie still keeps Lily up a lot at night, and I hear her yelling, "WAKE UP LILY" at 6am, and sometimes she sneaks out quietly. But mostly, it's a hour an hour to an hour of messing around in there, laughing or arguing, and then quiet.

This summer, was really cute. More than a few times I went in and found Addie's bed empty, only to find her sleeping with Lily or next to Lily. And I was reminded that this is what sisterhood and room sharing really is all about. I found a new thing, and I called it, room sharing goodness. Something I didn't know about before the summer.

Addie would love to sleep on Lily's bed every night if she could, but what with Lily's stuffed animal obsession, there just is not room, so many nights when I find Addie's bed empty, she is here:
Sometimes, they even move over her clock and "night stand" in order to make her feel more at home. This completely cracks us up!
I enter into a dark room to kiss Addie good night, but this is what I find...
Oh, here she is
This night she left bear-bear behind. I don't know how on earth that happened. Please note the little sign hung up next to her bed. It is a 7am/7pm stick figure drawing that Lawrence did to show Addie when she goes to bed and when she wakes up. It is working beautifully. God bless Daddy! :)

My sleeping beauties. See sometimes room sharing doesn't suck. And all that hard work was worth it. All the hard work is ALWAYS worth it. I could kiss those lips and those cheeks ALL. DAY. LONG.
I imagine that sometimes Addie is trying to come out of bed, but Lily shuts her down. Makes her stay in her own bed. Out of pure exhaustion, Addie falls to sleep here.
I'll rest here for a minute and make my escape later...after a few winks of shut eye.
And once in a while. Sister lets her in. But not at the top of the bed, that's where the "guys" go.
Addie doesn't mind sleeping at the bottom half of Lily's bed. She's just glad to be there at all.
And you just can't help taking one million pictures of this.
And wishing you had a sister of your own...

7 blogs in 7 days. Day 1 - That other side of the aisle...the other side of "that generation"

Last year I copied my blog friend Aimee after she did 7 blogs in 7 days. It was great, I cleared out all of my draft posts from summer and before in order to make way for new fall fun. This year we decided to do it again together. I thought we started tomorrow. Ah well, I've been known lately for my dropping the ball...In other news, I also started another 30 day shred today. So it's day 1 all around for me...

Don't forget some comment love to help me keep up with my 7 and my 30! :)

A few weeks before vacation I did all the school shopping for the Lily and Addie's school supplies. I was quite proud of myself having it all done and organized a month in advance, since the past two years I was not nearly as on top of things and was stuck searching for a glue stick anywhere in the greater Portland area. Luckily last year it was only for Lily. This week Lily starts Kindergarten and Addie starts preschool and their backpacks have been lugged around full of their complete supply lists for days.

The thing that I wasn't on top of this year was the school clothes shopping for Lily. This always throws me for a loop when we have a vacation scheduled for the end of summer. I spend the weeks before vacation shopping for clearance summer-y outfits or on-sale swimsuits going out of season. This year, I also kind of put it off knowing that we had a lot of cute summer dresses that only needed a few sweaters and some leggings with Mary Janes that would 'fall' them up and carry her through the first few months of school. I also thought I would find said leggings and sweaters with a quick trip to Target. On Labor Day.

Addie is thoroughly stocked as far as clothes go. In fact she always has been. Besides her sister's ample wardrobe to pick from, she also isn't really growing and at 3 years old just fits into 2T nicely (and even 18month - for shorts / skirts, for that matter), and she has the hand me downs from the 3 Rose girls. But Lily doesn't have any older girls feeding her with their cutie outgrown hand me downs, and she keeps getting taller and taller. And her feet, dear lord her feet! Today I bought her 3 pairs of shoes and 2 of them, get this are SIZE ONE, in Women's. WOMEN'S! My five year old!

Anyway, mostly she is in size 6 for clothes and most of her existing pants are size 5T, a tad short and they "rub" a little. Today I ran to Target to get her a few more pairs of leggings, a couple of sweaters, and some jeans. Target is close and easy and I always can find something priced well for cute stuff. Not. Today. First of all, she has moved from the "Toddler/Baby Girl" section to the "Girls" section. I'm on the right side of the aisle, not the left. And I LOVE the left side.

First since Addie was born I could ALWAYS find them a matching outfit. Size Newborn and 3T dresses, no problem. Need 12-18month and 4T matching Easter Bunny Jammies, I have six to choose from. Matching sisters is not only something that they love, it's something I love. They look so adorable all matchy match. But now they are in a different size bracket, maybe forever. Until they are in their 20s. Yikes. Second, everything costs at least $10 more for big girl rather than little girl. Third, I simply do not like most of the clothes in the BIG girl section for a six year old. Unlike the LITTLE girl section where it is hard to find something that is not simply adorable. Granted I was only looking at Target, I haven't looked at everything that is out there, but I guess I'm just annoyed that I have to try harder to find cute things for my cute daughter. Clothing her has been so easy. It all looks so good on her and when I'm discouraged about not being able to find something for me, I simply buy a basic tunic T and some stretch pants or a skort and she looks adorable. For under 15 bucks. No more. I just looked at Old Navy online and I did LIKE some of the things in her size, but they were like $25-30 for ONE item. It's not that I'm cheap, it's just that I'm used to being able to cloth my LITTLE girl for very little money and I want her to still be a LITTLE girl, but instead she is a BIG girl. When she was a 5T, $100 would honestly buy at least 10 items, more with my smart shopping. Now as a size 6, it buys 4 items, if I'm lucky, at a discount store. Darn.

Not to mention, she still acts like a LITTLE girl. She wanted each and EVERY pretty thing she saw today. I was actually forced to buy a LITTLE girl style pink butterfly sweatsuit that was a little too big for her, made by Haines for $5.99 because it was so soft that she did not want to take it off. I figured she could wear it after some rainy soccer games this winter when it is freezing out. She also BEGGED for some pleather stretch pants, which I did let her try on in the wrong size so that I could blame the size rather than my strict-no-pleather-under-my-roof-rule that Stacy and Clinton have instilled in me. Heh. She just liked them because they were so SHINY. I almost wanted to buy them, but not for $19.99, just to see the look on Lawrence's face when he pulled out her new Kindergarten hooker-wear. It also seemed like one HOT new style (for big girls) is a dress that is T-shirt on top and prom dress from the 80s on the bottom. Of course Lily loved these. Comfy shirt, poofy skirt, what's not to love. Luckily they were short sleeved and I convinced her that we were only looking for long sleeves. I steered clear of a whole section because I spotted a long sleeved tutu goth outfit that I knew she would love due to the tulle and glitter and the black unitard thingy. There was one ugly shirt that she touched the glitter/guitar/peace sign front to "ooo and ahh" and then said "ugh" instead. "Nope," she said matter of factly as she held up her three glittery fingers. "Glitter" she showed me. Sidenote: Lawrence has a REAL issue about glitter and how it gets everywhere, and Lily is so sweet and conscientious about it, even though she loves glitter. Seriously, I sighed relief as I smiled at her sweetness. It's not that she is in charge of what we buy. I can still talk her into and out of anything that I want her to get. But I did want her to pick some stuff and I expected a much more fun mother / daughter shopping trip. Don't get me wrong, she had a blast. But I...just felt old and sad that I didn't like the clothes that were available for her.

And I chuckled at myself at the way I'd categorized our whole life because I couldn't go to Target the day before school starts and find everything I wanted for the first few weeks of school for fifty bucks. By the way, they DID have the leggings I wanted for $4.99, it's just that they were out. So, of course it is the end of the world, right?

Lily is just so sweet and smart and compassionate and strong willed and naive and funny and bossy and worldly. We've worked really hard for the things that are important in life to us to be important to her. Family, friends, love, teaching, God, learning, respect, work-ethic, fun, and boundaries. We are about to enter a new season of life where she goes off to school, and not preschool that we are opting for but one where she rides the bus and kids might be mean and she is entering the school that continues for then next 13 years. It's different and it's exciting and it's sad.

I know all of you moms out there who have kids that are 8-9-10 and into the teenager years are laughing at me, like, "ha, you just WAIT!". And I know. I know I have a lot of school shoppings and first days ahead of me where it doesn't go down the way I'd hoped. I know that a day might come where I BEG for that t-shirt on top and prom dress on bottom outfit + leopard print leggings. I know that there are many days ahead when I'll have to let go of her wardrobe in order to hold tighter to our relationship. It's just that we aren't there yet. And it makes me sad as I think about heading there. My big girl is still only 5. And she acts that way, and I treat her that way.

So I don't wanna dress her like she is 6.

Vacation Photo Book 2010

Click here to view this photo book larger

At the end of vacation last week I got an email from Shutterfly to create a free photo book. I have done this once before, after our last vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2008 - our last family vacation with Lawrence's family.

This time, I only had about 3 days to create the free book but I decided to do it, because I thought it would be a neat record keeping tradition, and as you know I am ALL about record keeping AND trying to do it the same a second time around - I love comparing things side by side in a similar fashion :). It's a little more thrown together and less organized than the previous time, but even so, I was happy to finish it and get it for free + 7.99 for shipping and handling (even if I did have to miss girls' night out last night to do so).

So the link above is the book that I created from our Sunriver vacation, outlined a few blog posts below. I don't use Shutterfly for the majority of my photo saving, only for times when they have awesome gift deals or something. While I was in my account, saving my book, I noticed that they had the book I made 2 years ago saved in my projects. While of course I have the actual book, I was pleased to have the electronic copy!

Click here to see it, or just go to the below post. It was fun to compare the kids, what a difference two years makes. I love that after creating this, it allows you to share the book as well.

Creating this book make me think of two things:

1. Thank God we are not in North Carolina this year for vacation, as Hurricane Earl wreaks havoc. This is the week that we vacationed there, and returned home the day before Labor Day. Oh, how I loved that vacation. I loved it. I really like this one two, but that one 2 years ago gave me true belief that vacation after children and with children can in fact be fun. And I LOVE the ocean. Of course, I really did love not flying this time around - I'm imagining the nightmare of getting through security and the things that would be in mouths on the plan and off - from both Addie and Bryson. Anyway, I'm imagining that my whole feel of that trip would have been different had it been now and we were evacuated from the islands! Sorry for whoever has that awesome beach house this week (and I'm not sure I've ever said that before!)

2. I created this book last time with a broken foot. In fact, since I broke my foot upon returning on vacation last time, I've been grateful for a non broken foot a lot this last week. Even though it was hard for me to get back in the work groove, and least I GOT to go to work. Last time I had to call my boss after a week's vacation to say I would be working from home for the next month and then another 4 weeks of no driving after that. Let's just say that crutches and public transportation do not mix. So making this book reminded me to be happy about my healthy working body. Hope you enjoy looking at these, I know I have, and I'm also glad to have these links, not to be lost in an unused Shutterfly account!

Family vacation in Sunriver

Our Family Vacation - East and West Coast Herman's
the recap - it's a long one

I always get hung up blogging after a trip because it feels a little overwhelming to write a post that does the trip justice. But if there is one thing I have learned as a not professional blogger, it is that it is better to post a post not doing an event justice than to wait, or not post at all (ahem, Lily's 5th birthday party!).

Lawrence's parents and his brother arrived with the twins in tow on Friday afternoon, my sister-in-law and oldest neice arrived on Friday night and we picked up 2 rental cars for our caravan to Sunriver. Saturday morning (Day 1) after loading a trailer (and I do mean TRAILER)
full of stuff, a quick trip to VooDoo Donuts, and packing up coolers of food, we were off. When we were pulling out of our driveway, Addie said, "Okay, evwebody, weddy to wok and wool". Very funny, little girl, who desperately needed a nap yet only slept for 30 minutes of the 4 hour drive.

We all arrived at the house a little before check in, about 3:30pm.
The kids got on the bikes straight away, and we all unloaded and claimed bedrooms. The house had 5 master bedrooms and we figured out sleeping arrangements that worked for everyone. Bryson was happy in the closet of our master, and the girls were thrilled to sleep in the kids bunk room with their cousins.
Tyler was thrilled to finally have a boy to hang out with. Though I think a year from now he will love it even more. He was hoping to teach Bryson how to pee standing up. We got half way there, Bryson DID learn to pull himself up fully to a standing position this trip! We couldn't resist getting cute boy cousin pictures in matching clothing. Bryson was even happy about it!
Day 2, since the temperature was forecast to be a high of 69, included a trip to the High Desert Museum. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but it was cool. Lily really enjoyed the presentation about the Birds of Prey and was taking a million pictures with her camera. There were a bunch of neat interactive type exhibits and I was impressed with the types of questions she was asking. We ran into some friends from Portland, which was funny and unexpected. The kids ran and played and got dirty. They also enjoyed an exhibit where they got to scrub the wood floor of an old farm house. Go Figure. We tried to push Addie through her nap without luck, she fell asleep in the stroller for a few minutes only to wake up a screaming monster version of her self. Good thing we were on our way out of the museum as it was. She screamed the rest of the way back to the house, (about 20 minutes) and when we got there, I took advantage of her overtiredness to give us both a much needed nap, cuddling together. I guess Lawrence, Julia, and the in-laws had the rest of the kids, but I was so busy snoring and drooling in Addie's hair that I couldn't say for sure. At around 5:30 pm I knew I needed to wake her or she'd never go to bed that night. So I took the opportunity to take some sleeping photos of her. Lawrence came in to wake us both and found me awake, standing on the bed snapping photos. :)

That night before bed, Lawrence, Lily, Julia, Addie, and I took a long bike ride. It was nice. I hadn't ridden a bike for a while. Fun. Addie rode in the trailer, Lily rode on her own (still with training wheels) and Bryson stayed with Grandma while we relived bike riding childhood memories with our girls.
Lawrence and I managed to have a lot of fun together on this trip. We got along awesome and were both in a very good frame of mind with a relaxed attitude. See what taking away work does for the soul?!

Day 3 started like most others, Uncle Mark making yummy breakfast sausage for everyone while I fumbled with my coffee, and dripped vanilla creamer all over the floor due to a mutilated lid. :) Then we bathed the children, who managed to get dirtier and dirtier earlier and earlier as the week went on. A surefire sign that fun is being had. It was COLD in the mornings, as low as 29 degrees one night, so the coffee and fireplace in the morning was great. Lawrence even went for a run and then jumped in the hot tub after that day. Something I planning to do each night but was collapsing with exhaustion after kids were in bed, so didn't. Exhaustion and dry skin! I was, we all were, very under packed in the lotion requirement department. High dessert. Cold and dry. A few times I spilled water on the kitchen floor and Lawrence was able to just mop it up with his dry feet. His joke, not mine. Anyway, that day, we also went to the park, sans our two little napping guys who stayed with Julia, and had sports fun with Lily.Jayme and I beat Lawrence and his dad in a soccer scrimmage (and that is REALLY sad considering I was wearing flip flops)! We played track ball, did the parachute, and once the little guys were awake, Julia call and we all packed up and went to the North Pool in the afternoon, Came home, had dinner and then did S'Mores that night.Bryson reading books with Grandpa before bed

Day 4. Tuesday. Overtired Addie asked to take a nap at 10:30am.
Since we didn't want to see the screaming monster inside our 25 pound blondie, we let her and I stayed home with her (can you say quiet house!) then she and I met the rest of the fam at the pool (we discovered the much better and WARMER South pool this time) after a solid two hours of sleep. Bryson again LOVED the pool, when I arrived he was just falling asleep and took a nap, wet, in his bathing suit, wrapped in towels in the stroller. Man, he was cute. When we got back to the house, we all got showered and ready for family pictures. Devin Miller arrived a few minutes early and we had 2 hours of photos taken. They were good, especially considering we had 6 kids and 7 adults, and it was hot and kids were tired and hungry. She had her work cut out for her, and everyone was rewarded for sort of smiling pretty with more S'Mores that night back home. Uncle Mark also found an old style popcorn popper with a big pot/crank and made some home made popcorn. It was yummy and we all agreed popcorn just tastes better when it's made that way!
Day 5 - Bikes, Pool, Picnics, Bikes, Pool, and not much else. We had a very good day. And that night, Mark, Laureen, Lawrence, and I had a night out. THANKS JULIA! It was fun to have some kidless time with them, and to be able to sit and talk uninterrupted. It's been 2 years since we had that with Lawrence's brother and his wife. Way too long. I think Day 5, Wednesday was my favorite day of the whole vacation. No plans, beautiful weather, good family, I thoroughly enjoyed it. We aren't at a stage of life where vacation is relaxing.
It's fun, but it is not restful. This would be the day that was the most restful day if there was one.

Day 6 - Played in PJs all morning with cousins. Addie and Tyler still have a really cute special bond and they can't get enough of each other. I found them playing school and reading books together in the loft, just the two of them. After naps, McMenimans's Francis School for happy hour in Bend. I might have given Bryson his first tater tot, and he might have really liked it. Before bed Addie asked me how many more nights left, I said, 2 counting tonight. She said, "But I tot we have a whole week". The boys smoked cigars after bed time and tried to soak it off in the hot tub.

Day 7 - Celebrated our niece's 10th birthday a day early.
Happy 10th Birthday Jayme!! In the morning, she went with her dad on a horse back ride, and our nephew gave everyone a scare with what ended in an urgent care trip for what turned out to be an asthma attack caused by partially by altitude sickness. Otherwise, the day was awesome. We played games, rode bikes, pulled the wagon, played ping pong (Lawrence REALLY enjoyed playing with his mom), foosball, and finally ate birthday cake and MORE S'MORES!! Before bed, I told Addie it was the last night, and she said, "But I still have one more pull up left". Ha! That was her Advent Calendar of the 7 nights of vacation. But she didn't bargain for us bringing an extra.
On the last day, we packed up - headed to Sunriver Lodge to take some pictures and then hit the road for the 4 hr drive home. We had one more dinner with Lawrence's family before they got on the red eye back to NJ.

At around 9pm that night I was beat, and I certainly was not jealous of the rest of the family who was just boarding, 4 tired adults with 3 tired kids. We were glad to have Sunday to clean up, do laundry, and regroup for the week ahead.

Thank you so much to Lawrence's parents. As the family grows and life gets busier and more expensive, time passes and it is difficult to see each other. We truly appreciate what they do to put a trip like this together for us all to see each other. Lily and Addie were broken hearted on Saturday night. Goodbyes have been plentiful as of late, and this one wasn't easy for them. They've looked forward to it all year and they loved the time with their cousins so much.
